BOB DYLAN / PIANO, BERKELEY CONCERT

BOB DYLAN / PIANO, BERKELEY CONCERT
Berkeley 1965

I was at the concert with my date along with Michael McClure, Allen Ginsberg, some Hells Angels and assorted others. I used my dad's Diner's Club card to buy the whole row for us. Everyone paid me back. Ginsberg introduced me to Dylan after the concert and we made arrangements to do a photo session at City Lights Books.

Bette, my date to the concert made a cape with two long inside sleeves to put a rifle stock and a 300mm telephoto lens. I assembled them to the camera in the dark and took photographs with the protection of Ginsberg and the Hell's Angels.

This photograph is from the first half of the concert. I added the flames to illustrate the effect Dylan had on folk music and its blend into electric rock and roll in the second half of his concert.
