Tony Seymour Collected Works

Poems for Another Time
Evolution of a Soul:
Collected Works
of Tony Seymour

San Leandro, CA:
Baby Back Books, 1998

distributed by
Empty Mirror Books Distribution

signed, limited edition
no. 16 of 150 copies

"This collection of poetry was a direct result of a conversation and letter sent to Tony Seymour by spiritual leader Baba Ram Dass, in 1975: "Imagine the Collected Works of Tony Seymour." Tony Seymour says he took Ram Dass's advice to heart and spent four years inputting all of his poetic ideas, which had been expounded on cocktail napkins and tossed into a steamer trunk for saving. The poems were written over a 32 year span, from 1965 to 1997.

This work is essentially a poet's view of world history, and its topical range reaches from before written history, through Cro-Magnon times, through the times of Buddha, Christ, and Mohammed, & imaginary fables of times of yore, through the various lives a soul experiences in a soul's 'lifetime.' The book includes the 1400s and 1800s, then pauses with a journey through all the various emotions entailed in the pursuit of a love life while in this lifetime -- finally to rest in the future...the times all poets dream and live their future lives."

The book is limited to 150 copies, each numbered and signed by the poet. It is printed on parchment paper, bound with an antique press into bright orange hardcovers. Offered for sale is No. 16 of 150, numbered and signed by the poet on the title page. Includes introductions by Baba Ram Dass and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Almost six pounds of poetry ~ the 1021 pages comprising the collected works of this neo-Beat poet. $199.98.
In the United States, this book will be sent to your doorstep via insured USPS Priority Mail, for no additional shipping fee. Outside the U.S. book may be sent either via Air Mail, or by Surface - please enquire.

Tony Seymour, © 2002 by Johnny Ace Tony Seymour was born in 1951 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended the University of New Mexico and the University of Hawaii. Soon after, armed with a B.A. in communications, Seymour embarked on a 5-year study of the Beat Generation. He met Bob Kaufman while working at City Lights Bookstore publicity department on Huey Newton & Ericka Huggins' book 'Insights & Poems" in 1973-1975. Thereafter he studied and hung out with Kaufman for three years. In 1976 Seymour initiated a wave of publicity for Kaufman, with publications in California Living Magazine, The Berkeley Barb, Players Magazine, and the Black Panther Party Newspaper. Seymour says, "You don't have to live during the Renaissance to study with the literary masters! Studying with Kaufman was a once-in-a-lifetime chance!"
