Max Douglas, Poet

Empty Mirror

Max Douglas was a Kansas poet who died much too young, leaving behind many admirers, and a thick volume’s worth of really fine work. Douglas, born in 1949, passed away in 1970 of an accidental heroin overdose.

Max Douglas Collected Poems

During his life, many of his poems were published in literary periodicals, and his Collected Poems was published in 1978 by White Dot Press. It’s now very hard to find – if you come across a copy, be sure to pick it up!

His work was much admired by other poets, and Kenneth Irby wrote the poem, “For Max Douglas” in 1971.

Max Douglas Audio-Documentary

Particularly interested in establishing contact with Douglas’s sister Linda. Her married name is unknown; she was last known to be living somewhere in Colorado. Any leads in contacting her would be greatly appreciated.
