MICKEY DOLENZ, MONKEE / MONTEREY POP
Monterey, 1967
Mickey Dolenz was one of the characters in the comedy/pop group, The Monkees. I got to spend some time photographing him backstage. I had a backstage pass because I was exhibiting my work at the festival in a little pavilion; all my photographs were stolen.
CANDACE BERGEN
Monterey, 1967
Candace Bergen was walking around backstage at the Monterey Pop Festival. No one recognized her. I did and when I raised my camera to photograph her, she casually posed for me without missing a beat, a real pro.
BRIAN JONES, ROLLING STONE / MONTEREY POP
Monterey, 1967
Brian Jones was the sound of the Rolling Stones. He was the soul. I got to spend some time photographing him backstage. I had a backstage pass because I was exhibiting my work at the festival in a little pavilion; all my photographs were stolen.
HOPPER AND McCLURE
San Francisco 1967-98
Dennis Hopper is at Michael McClure's apartment listening to him playing the autoharp and singing his poetry. Hopper would not admit to being an actor, I had to perform one of his scenes before he would cop to it.
