The Turkey and the Peacock

It was Thanksgiving Day and everyone was raving about the Turkey dressing. A very quirky Peacock who happened to overhear the conversation got a bit miffed that they weren't raving about him since Peacocks, being vain creatures, always like to be at the center of the conversation, and thus began undressing and then redressing to see if he could get the attention switched over to all the beautiful eyes that adorned his tail feathers. But that didn't work very well at all so he then decided that he himself would copy whatever way it was that the Turkey was dressed.

"Now let's see," said the Peacock more or less to himself, "where's that fellow lounging about so I can check out his sartorial accoutrements?" You can imagine how surprised he was when he found out that the Turkey was hanging out in the oven and roasting instead of roosting. A very murky feeling fell over him when he opened the oven door to discover to his horror that the dressing contained bay leaves, the one thing that he was allergic to. Nevertheless he rashly stitched himself into a suit of bay laurel, feathers and all, and he certainly did gain everyone's attention when the farmer thought his wife (who was busy in the bathroom) had created a new way to cook someone's goose and popped him into the oven before the poor Peacock could say a word. And insult upon injury, it turned out he was so tough that he wound up simmering in a real stew.

Moral:

When you're feeling quirky and dress like a turkey, life gets a bit murky.
