My new paintings are taking an honest direction home. My early work was both naïve and primitive. My early heroes were people like “Le Douanier” Henri Rousseau and Horace Pippin, an American painter. Now I find myself coming back to that, just trying to be natural and comfortable with my skill, such as it is, and my expression. What is new is an other-worldliness to these paintings, a connection with the dream world and to surrealism of some sort. This is unconscious on my part but natural too since a lot of inner life is there, somewhere, and not here.
