In Lawrence Ferlinghetti's office resides the 'first chair', a trophy from the 1953 founding of City Lights Books. It is over 50 years old and the chair is still being used and revered.

Ferlinghetti is shown here in two poses I have combined into one photograph with Lawrence, the businessman and Lawrence, the personality. I have been working with Ferlinghetti for years and I have found him very appreciative of my work. Ever since my Last Gathering photography session in 1965, he has called me up on the phone to say "thanks." He has 'old school' manners, which fuels my soul.
