The images are selected from the video of my performance Open Dialogue -
W.W. II Soviet tank manifestation for the 2002 Davaj! Russian Art Now exhibition
held at the MAK museum in Vienna. The leitmotiv of this project was my idea that:

Language is a true fascist, for the essence of fascism is not in forbidding but
in forcing one to say something.

I put into this tank a very powerful CD-sound system and presented selections
from the Anthology of Sound Poetry of the World, that I edited last year.

At the museum people asked me questions and wanted to discuss the "visiting tank".
From the turret I answered questions by rotating the turret and by playing the next
sound poem. The "dialogue" was a simulation...

Dialogue with terrorism (even language terrorism) is impossible...

The tank will emit sound day and night from June to September 2002.

Austria was one of the mothers of the fascism (Hitler was born near Linz, Austria), and
with this event I am expressing the idea that fascism is not so terrible as the social
phenomena, because I see in the roots of fascism (along with terrorism, communism, and
other "isms"), that our physiology and languages are a biological part of mankind.

AN INTERNATIONAL ANTHOLOGY OF SOUND POETRY

This anthology is the first to appear in Russia with such a scope and range
of authors. It's purpose is to give Russians a feeling for a new phenomenon
of contemporary literature and art: international sound poetry. The set of
CDs represents the sound poetry productions of one hundred and ten poets
from twenty-two countries, who currently are working in this area and
related the audio-art fields. The theoretical base of the anthology includes
essays by leading sound poets and researchers of this trend, dedicated both to
the issues of the genre and the history of sound poetry development in different
countries. This initial enterprise in sound poetry will let the reader/listener
trace the ongoing developments in the historical field of artistic goals and
outline the goals that the contemporary experimental poets set for themselves.
All the audio recordings and articles have been obtained directly from the authors
especially for the program of presentation the art of sound poetry in Russia by the
Kaliningrad Branch of the National Center for Contemporary Art.

After such long dark horrible years in which the Leninist/Stalinist
dictatorship destroyed free circulation of ideas, literature, art or social
movements in Russia, culting russian artists and russian citizens out of the
free international movement of different cultures and artistic currents, it
is a wonderful opportunity offered by the National Center for Contemporary
Art (Kaliningrad branch) to come into contact with russian artists thanks to
a world-wide laboratory project of direct, horizontal free interchange of
experiences and information set up by Dmitry Bulatov.
