Remembering Plato's Wisdom
In the late afternoon
A quiet comes over the room
Not as a surprise, but like a kind of
Afterthought, after you've found yourself
Sitting down, after racing around
In some sort of what you thought
Was meaningful way, but
Now that you
Take a deep breath, you
Realize that
Time is constant now, and that the
Running fast was to no avail
Because
Though you thought you were catching up, you
Were merely going in the same circle, the
One you have gone in
For so many years, that the habit
Itself seemed to give it meaning, bu
t Now that you have grown older, and have
Had time to sit down again, just as you had time
To sit down when you were young, you
Realize that you knew more then, but
Somehow you got trapped in those patterns
You thought were important, but really never were,
They were but patterns you learned When you were losing your way, I
Remember, Plato said it, that we are wise
When we are young, then we are
"educated" and lose our own way, but now
That you can sit down once again
Things are clear
There is no need to rush, all the
Work and all the tasks will beÊhere
Tomorrow anyway, just as they are here today
And it won't really make any difference
If you hurry or not, they'll get done, or
Maybe not done, but in the end
It won't really matter, because
Even if you die
Before they're done, someone else
Can take care of them, and if not
Then they simply won't get done
But none of this will matter to you
