A.D. Winans founded the important Second Coming Press in San Francisco back in the 1970s, publishing some of the best Beat poets alongside crucial street and underground poets of the time. All along, his own work has been politically engaged and acerbic in its observations.
He is an award winning poet and writer whose work has been published internationally and translated into nine languages; in 2002 a poem of his was set to music by Pulitzer composer William Bolcom, and performed at Alice Tully Hall. In 2006 PEN National awarded him a Josephine Miles literary excellence award. In 2009 PEN Oakland presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Local guest poet/friends who will join Winans in reading from his work include Neeli Cherkovski, Nellie Wong, Ann Menebroker, Art Beck, Soheyl Dahi, Evan Karp, William Taylor, Paul Fericano, Trina Drotar, Bill Gainer and Bill Vartnaw.
