Established in 2000 as a bookselling site specializing in collectible Beat Generation and small press poetry books, Empty Mirror morphed into a literary and arts site. In 2012, EM re-launched in magazine format.
We still love the Beats and poetry but have expanded the conversation to other types of literature, film, music, and art.
Denise Enck is the founder and editor of Empty Mirror. She designed, writes for, and maintains the site. Usually, Empty Mirror is a one-woman operation.
In the 1990s and early 2000s she edited and published Quicksilver / Quartermoon Press, The Lithic Review / Preshistoric Press, and the Nomad and Quicksilver broadside series.
As owner of Quanta Web Studio she builds websites for writers (including some of the Beats), other creative people and small businesses. Quanta also offers consulting, SEO and web hosting services.
Empty Mirror is based in Washington State’s northwest corner, just south of the Canadian border. Deer often roam the yard below the second-floor office window.
