Land O’ Lakes: Highway 7 photographs

JC Olsthoorn

Land O’ Lakes project is based on photographs taken in 2007 and 2009 of an abandoned motel on Highway 7 between Ottawa and Toronto, Ontario. Land O’ Lakes motel was a popular spot for vacationers to stop in the 1960s but with the opening of the main highway 401 south of the 7, traffic dropped off and the motel, well, lost business and eventually closed. The stretch of Highway 7 is the subject of an award-winning documentary of which several of my original photographs were used in the documentary’s web page: thelosthighway.ca.
