Established in May 2000 as a bookselling site specializing in collectible Beat Generation and small press poetry books, Empty Mirror soon morphed into a literary and arts site. In 2012, EM re-launched in weekly magazine format, publishing every Friday at midnight Pacific time.
While EM still includes information on the Beats, we’ve now expanded the conversation to other types of literature, film, music, and art.
The editor
Denise Enck (she/her) is the founder and editor of Empty Mirror.
In the 1990s and early 2000s they edited and published the literary journal Quicksilver, Ted Joans’ poetry collection WOW, and the Quicksilver broadside series (all Quartermoon Press), the literary journal The Lithic Review and the Nomad broadside series (both Prehistoric Press).
Denise’s poetry and visual art have appeared in a number of literary journals including The Cafe Review, Haight-Ashbury Literary Review, Indefinite Space, and Frank’s Home, and at McClure-Manzarek.com, but these days most of her creative energies are directed towards Empty Mirror.
