Alec Clayton: Abstract Paintings from the Retrospective

Alec Clayton

Alec Clayton will have a retrospective exhibition at the gallery at Tacoma Community College, Tacoma, WA, from June 28-August 10, 2017, representing 44 years of painting both abstract and figurative paintings. The paintings below are a selection of the abstract work to be shown in the exhibit.

Artist’s Statement: These are abstract paintings inspired by movement in nature such as birds in flight, fish jumping, and also inspired by human bodies. Most are in oil on canvas. Two of them, “Blood Twister” and “Soundwaves” are painted constructions. They are inspired by the Abstract Expressionists and by the “pattern and decoration” movement of the ’70s and the late work of Frank Stella.

I see DeKooning, but with an optimism that belongs to you. You’ve made me interested in your writing by your visual art. So glad I saw it.
