Seven paintings by Margarita Gokun

Margarita Gokun

Artist’s Statement: I think of my pieces as snippets of thoughts and feelings we experience but often fail to recognize. Our connection to the bigger, our ability to dip into the cosmos’s pool of possibilities, our link to the universal consciousness, and our relationship with our own subconscious. The representation of that which is there yet unseen invite the viewers to move into a whimsical space of dreams and to construct their own version of reality.

I am often inspired by feminine archetypes of the soul. Some of my pieces tend to focus on exploring what it’s like to be a girl or a woman today. Others attempt to create a world in which girls are called to create and follow dreams of their own regardless of the society around them. I am also fascinated with light and darkness—how the two must co-exist to illuminate our inner and outer worlds.

Margarita Gokun

A nomad by nature, Margarita Gokun never lives longer than two-to-four years in any one country. That creates havoc when she packs her canvases but inspiration of a new place almost always makes up for it.

Since starting to paint in oil four years ago Margarita has had solo and group exhibitions, published in literary and art magazines, and won contests. Her portfolio can be seen at http://StoriesAndColors.wordpress.com.
